Confuzzled Stories #9 - My True Mother ( A Young Dragon's Tale Pt.1)

Once every other week I write a little story from my Confuzzling fantasy world.   This idea came from the drawing of the faeries you see above in the heading and writing prompts from Writer's Digest.com.

 Confuzzled Stories #9

My True Mother (Tale of Young Dragon Part 1)

“Oh Deary Me! Rebekkah the genie lamp is ringing! Can you answer it? It Mother’s Day after all I shouldn’t strain myself.” Said Goldie Locke .

“Yes mother I will get it you just relax and watch Survival of the Fittest and then I will bring out the cake!” Rebekkah said anxiously

She picked up the phone and answered “Hello? Lockes Cave...”

“Stop celebrating with her Rebekkah that is not your real mother!!!”  Said the dainty voice similar to Rebekkah’s.

“Hello??  I am sorry I think you have the wrong cave?” Rebekkah said shaking obviously disturbed.

“No! Please don’t hang up!!..” said the voice kindly as possible. “I have been trying and trying to find a way to tell you my sweet child.  That beast Goldie stole you as an egg from me and took you to the Locke’s cave.  You are not a Locke Rebekkah you a Hearth....My name Jabbie Hearth. I am your mother.” she said tearfully, “ I just  couldn’t take another Mother’s Day without you.  Haven’t you ever noticed you don’t resemble the Locke’s?”

Rebekkah drew a long breath inward and began to look nervously around the room.  This can’t be true she thought. Tears began to weld in her eyes.

“Rebekkah Deary who is it?  Who has upset my daughter?”  asked the crackly fiery voice of Goldie Lock.   She took the phone from her visibly upset dragon child.

“Who isss thiss ?!” said Goldie in her most ferrous tone.

Sobbing on the other end was Jabbie, “I finally found you Goldie and I told Rebekkah what you did and her father and I are coming for her.  So you better be ready for us! “

“ I don’t know what you taking about!  Don’t call this cave again or there will be trouble! “ said Mrs. Locke

Goldie slammed the the genie lamp against the cave wall in anger. A small voice from inside could be heard saying “Ouch!”   Goldie turn to Rebekkah to comfort the child but it was too late Rebekkah had run from the cave in tears.   Goldie called and searched for her in fear of losing the young thing.

Rebekkah hid near the fullest bushes by the watering hole and cried knowing what the caller had said was true but was to upset to even comprehend what to do about.

Then floating above her head she hear a whisper “ Why are you crying little dragon?”  asked the small Confuzzled Fae with a star head band and Faery wand.

Rebekkah just waved the thoughts of the Faery away and cried some more.

Confuzzled Stories #7 - Pardon the Interruption

Confuzzled Stories #7 - Pardon the Interruption

Dear Reader,
Have you ever pondered the reason you do what you do?  As a matter of fact I really didn’t until one day there was a star tapping at my computer screen.   That’s right there was a cute looking bald headed Confuzzled Fae staring back at me. (now reader if you didn’t know before Confuzzled Fae have only eyes and a nose. No mouth to speak words from they do so with their thoughts, which make them very hard to lie to because they know pretty much everything)  This Confuzzled Fae was a curious one I must say.   While it tapped on the screen politely (as all Confuzzled Faes are) and it thought... telepathically of course....” Why are you doing what your doing?” it asked.

“I am sorry?” I said “What do you do you mean exactly?”

“I mean why write book reviews, make arts and crafts, or write stories?” it asked staring at me intently (as Confuzzled Fae also do)

“Well I guess...” I thought about it “ It is so people can see my ideas or enjoy my art or stories.” I smiled boldly.

The Fae brought it’s head closer and looked into my eyes.”Is that truly it? Are you sure? How do you know people are reading or looking or frankly if they even care what you do?”
I farrowed my brow and contemplated, “ I guess it is not really for them it is for me.  I need to create.  There is just a need to be creative.” I said.

The Fae tilted it’s head “I see it thought. So you create why? For only your purpose no one else...?”

“Well not it’s not just creative purposes I have I guess...I have hopes that one day maybe ...you know ...that I and my family may use this to reach people and become financially stable... Why is that wrong?”  I said wondering what the intuitive Fae thought.

“No not wrong the Fae said but is that really your purpose? Is that all you are meant for?” it wondered.

“Of course that is not all I do.  I have a family as I said I just need an outlet for my emotions thoughts, dreams, and hopes. Don’t you have such aspirations?” I asked the Fae.

“No.” it thought melodically.”Not really but it does soudn fun. Ta Ta.” it thought as it left my screen leaving me to my thoughts and feelings and asked many whys... I thought I created because I was created but now...Why do I do what I do? I sighed melancholy.

Confuzzled Stories 2 - Four Seasons

Once a week I write a little story about a young female elf and her duty to protect these faeries called Confuzzled Faeries.   This idea came from the drawing of the faeries you see above in the heading and writing prompts from Writer's Digest.com.

The Four Seasons

During the day, I'm a faery wrangler. At night, I'm a waitress. Tonight I'm serving the Four Seasons.

No, I'm not at the Four Seasons hotel. I'm talking about the Four Seasons in body form. There is the baby Haru, the embodiment of Spring. Amyra, the fun loving clown that brings Summer. Ohshee, the magnificent dragon of Autumn. And Dante the skeleton, who's sometimes seen as everlasting death, or life if you choose. He brings on Winter.

It's not everyday you get to see the Seasons come together. In fact, you only have four chances a the year. I mostly stood in corner, waiting for drink or food requests. Pretty boring work if you ask me, even serving the greatest beings on Earth.
I hear Haru giggle and see him point. Apparently I'm a funny looking elf.  Amyra - with her red nose, red hair and makeup-red smile - turns her head toward me and says, "Oh my, You have a tiny Angel on your shoulder."

I look to my shoulder and roll my eyes, sighing. Great, one of the faeries followed me.

On my shoulder is a bald faery, with only eyes and nose, no mouth. The faery is reading a book. Of course, since this type of faery is called a Confuzzled Fae, she's reading the book with her head.

Ohshee huffs and a little steam comes out his nose. "That's no angel. Angels are big, powerful spirits, and they dress in white. That is a Confuzzled Fae, known for it curious and playful nature. In groups, they can be very destructive."

Amyra motions for me to come forward with her oversize clown glove. "May I take a closer look at the little bubala."

I step forward between Amyra and Haru. Haru's eyes open wide and he reaches out with his chubby infant fingers. So I step back, protective of the little fae on my shoulder who doesn't seem to care if anyone's paying attention to it.

Amyra laughs at my movement. "We aren't going to hurt it. How did you ever find this little fae?"

I'm stunned. One of the Seasons is asking me a question. This is an unusual event. "I ... I ... am in charge of keeping them safe. One must have followed me without my knowledge."

The fae flies to the finger of baby Spring. I bite my lip worrying about the little bookworm's safety.

"Hmm ..." Dante mutters, stroking his bony chin."Interesting ... the young elf girl and this fae have very mundane auras."

"What makes that interesting?" Oshee scoffs.

"Because when they are together, their auras explode in a rainbow of colors. A very powerful team, if you ask me," says Dante.

Oshee looks at me out of the corner of his eye. "Young elf, what would you and your fae think of working for me? Sort of an internship?"

"You can't do that Oshee!" Dante exclaims.

"And why not?"

"... because that was my idea."

Amyra, the always smiling clown, starts laughing at her two brothers arguing over me and fae. I shift uncomfortably, wondering why me or this silly, little, bookish fae mean anything to these superior beings.

Their arguments grow more heated, and I watch in horror as the little fae, still balancing the book on it's head, flies over between the dark cloaked skeleton and scaly dragon. Quizzically, they stop fighting and look at the tiny winged creature. With a twinkle in her eye, the fae takes the book off her head and points to a quote in it. Oshee closes one eye to see the small print in the book. then reads it aloud: "'A brother is a friend given by Nature,' by Jean Baptiste Legouve."

Amyra grunts with agreement, "Not so confuzzled a fae after all." She smiles at me, and I can't help but smile back.

The arguing brothers come to a compromise (if I understand right, it comes from Haru, apparently only the seasons can understand him). If the fae and I choose, we can work for each season once during the seasons they bring.

How can I refuse the chance of a lifetime? I say I'd like to, but I don't know how the book fae feels.

She returns the book to her head and flutters back to my shoulder. She looks directly in my eyes, and I swear I can hear the words, "You better believe I will," along with a mischievous giggle.

Knowing what these curious faeries can do makes me feel nervous and excited. Although, honestly, more nervous. I'm not the adventurous type, but I have a feeling this fae was going to teach me a thing or two about adventure.

Confuzzled Stories - Birthday Chaos

Here's a little story about my faerie friends. I got the idea for this from a writing prompt on Writer's Digest site. I might try to do this every Wednesday write a little story that will included the Confuzzled Faeries.
Enjoy and Please Let Me Know What You Think In The Comments!

Birthday Chaos
Birthdays are a human celebration. I, on the other hand, am not human. But my adoptive parents were.
Turning 18 is not as important a mark for an elf as you might imagine, considering we live for a couple hundred years. But because I love my family, I put up with the birthday celebrations. I see the chocolate bunt cake in the waitress’s hands and hear them singing the traditional human birthday song. Maybe if I say what I have been thinking right now during the singing, they wouldn’t hear me, and my revelation would feel like it had never been revealed even though…. I sigh.
I just might as well get it out.
They are almost done singing. I keep that fake smile going and open my mouth to speak, and that is when the group of fae I befriended decides to crash the party.
These curious and cute faeries could turn this restaurant into chaos if not handled right. Many of them are playing with women’s hair or hopping into purses and dumping items out. They really like eople with hair since they don’t have any.
I roll my eyes and rub my forehead. Why does this have to happen now?
I have been handling this group of fae for a while, and they're not very bright. In fact, most things in this world confuse and enchant them. We call them Confuzzled faeries, and I am their faery herder.
That's what I was about tell my family, that I have decided to become a faery herder and not take the internship at Santa’s workshop, which is probably going to upset them. You see, faery herding is not really as upstanding as being one of Santa’s elves.
I hear a scream from the backroom chefs and see flames in the open area. Uh oh, now that is a problem. I jump from my seat and pull the magical net from my bag -- these faeries in particular have to be caught like butterflies. Speaking to them is a lost cause because most of the time they don’t understand. I often wonder if that's because they don’t have mouths.
I catch two faeries as I make my way to the back. First I run into the one I call the artist faery, because she paints with her toes. I scream, “No!,” when I see her painting in spaghetti sauce on the wall. I pick her up and put her in the net, which magically makes the fae tired.
There are 10 to 15 more faeries to catch. I try to remember my training and think of a way to distract them and make the herd come towards me, which would make things much easier. Then I remember what I love the most: theatrics.
I run back to my bag and pull out a book of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream. My mother looks at me, still not understanding what's going on. To really get the faes' attention, I'll have to speak pretty loud. So I pull out what looks like a cough drop and say a few magical words to make my voice sound like I have a microphone.
As soon as I start performing, the Confuzzled fae come toward me, and each one is collected in the net. Then applause erupts from the surrounding tables. Even my family joins in.
Somehow, I don’t think my job choice is going to be that bad.
