Shannon’s Thoughts:

The Next Person You Meet In Heaven brings back two characters from the first book The Five
People You Meet In Heaven
. We revisit Eddie a maintenance man who died saving a little girl named Annie. Annie is now a grown woman about to get married. Tragedy comes for Annie again and she has to face a past she does not remember.

I love all of Mitch Albom’s books. They are written simply, smoothly, and full of emotion. None of the characters are perfect, as we find this in Annie. Even after her rescue her life still had many ups and downs. Like most people, the downs of life are the ones that stick and hard to shake off.

I am not sure about the ending. Like most of Albom’s books, it ends with emotions high and I did not guess the ending beforehand.

I enjoyed this one it is probably in my top five of Mitch Albom books, first being For One More Day. I also feel you could read this one having not read the first book. I am looking forward to what book is coming next.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

Born with a musical talent no one can deny. Frankie Presto life is told by “Music” itself. We learn about the life of Frankie, as those who loved him come together to celebrate a man who can not be replaced.

There is something I love about Mitch Albom books. The inspirational way the stories are told and each one get more creative than the next. The fictional story of Frankie Presto and his talented life, show that you can’t run away from what god given talent you have because it is part of that person’s being. I may not have musical talent but I have artist talent. I have known how to draw from the time I was little. Like Frankie Presto there were times I stopped doing anything artist but it found it’s always back to me.  The same happens for Frankie, many times.

Even though the book goes back and forth through Frankie’s life and death.  I was still not prepared to say goodbye.  I wanted to know more about Frankie, his wife and daughter.  Even though I wanted the story to go on. I disliked that fact that the author felt he had to reveal Frankie’s true history, who his mother and father was.  I think I would have been okay for Frankie to have never known this info because in real life you do not get all the answers.

Mitch Albom has written another inspirational book.  It sparks questions about life, death and what talent we grabbed for ourselves while being born.  We reach for the stars and some of us, like Frankie, become one.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

A small town in U.S.A. makes headlines as a few of it’s residences start getting phone calls from loved ones who have died.  A story of faith, hope and believing what is in your heart.

I am a big fan of Mitch Albom’s fiction works.  He has some great ideas and there is always one or two quotes that just usually blow me away.  This one is not much different.  A group of small towns people start receiving phone calls from loved ones that say they are calling from Heaven. They only call at certain times and only a select group of individuals in the town.

From the beginning it is very mysterious and for me I was hoping that it did not end how I thought it might. Well… I won’t say how it ended but will say this was my least favorite book.  I still think it is a great story and he knows how to tell a story.  I had similar feelings for Albom’s book before this The Timekeeper.

The First Phone Call From Heaven is a great imaginative story and will leave you hoping and wondering.  Even though it is low on the ratings list of Alboms books it is still a page turner and he still has a fan.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

Since the dawn of time man has been measuring what we do and don’t do. We are introduced to Dor and his family. Dor creates the first clock and pays dearly for being engrossed with measuring time instead of just living.  God banishes Dor to a cave with no way out.  There is where he hears the cries of those who ask for more or less time. Eventually he is released, gets reacquainted with humanity and finds a way to help some.

I find that all of Mitch Albom’s books are clever, moving and thought provoking.  I seem to always find at least one sentence that turns my way of thinking in a way I could not imagine.  He never uses to big of words or metaphors that you have to stop and take time to understand.  Albom’s writing just flows into something so natural you feel you have heard before.

I do not know about anyone else but the fact that God punished Dor for creating a the first clock is a little scary.  I mean if you think about it Dor was only doing what he was good at, what came natural to him.  Would you not say that was why God created him with that skill? If that is so then why punish for a way of thinking that was given as a gift from God?

Even though there is things I do not understand about God’s reasoning. I still enjoyed the book and still love learning about myself and others by reading what Mitch Albom writes.

What is it About?

A non-fictional story about Mitch Albom and old teacher who meet every week to share wisdom.

My Thoughts:

I have read almost everyone of Mitch Albom’s books that are heartfelt.  I think this was his first was this book and  while this one isn’t my favorite or as memorable as say One More Day or Have A Little Faith. These honest books get to the heart of matters and always make me cry at some point.

This is a quick read not because it is just simply written but because I eagerly wanted to learn what was next.  I love that the author always meets such interesting people to write about and they are such regular people, people you want to know.

Have A Little Faith by Mitch Albom

Title: Have a Little Faith
Series: none
Author(s): Mitch Albom
Genre: Biography
Publisher: Hyperion
Release Date: September 22, 2009
Finished: December 2009
Pages: 249
Challenges: None
Rating:

My Thoughts: This is a true account of two men of god who belong to different faiths, yet have more in common than meets the eye. Albom was asked to write and deliver a eulogy for his Rabbi, who he really did not know well. So before the Rabbi's passing, Albom makes a deal to visit the Rabbi every so often to meet and talk. As the 8 years go on, he continues meeting with the Rabbi and also becomes acquainted with a Christian preacher whose church is going to pieces structurally, but its congregation has faith things with work out with time.

Mitch Albom'a writing is so carefree and open. He's not afraid to write things that are truthful about us as people of faith and all humans. While this was not my favorite of Albom's book (For One More Day is) it still has a beauty of a message.

About the Author: Mitch Albom is probably most known for sports writing and his first book, Tuesdays With Morrie. Visit his site, http://mitchalbom.com/
