Review - The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

Title: The Last Olympian
Series:: Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Author(s):: Rick Riordan
Genre:: Young Adult Book
Publisher: Disney Hyperion Books for Children
Release Date: May 5th 2009
Finished: May 2009
Pages: 381
Challenges: None
Rating:

My Thoughts: I started reading this series when the last book came out, The Battle at the Labyrinth, and I consider that the best of the run even after reading this one. This is a good book, but something was missing, even though it is action packed.

I liked the parts that tell you about the characters' backgrounds and history. The legends and myths were interesting, and the first couple books had more of that. There was a good amount of backstory in this book, but I still wanted more.

I think followers of Harry Potter will enjoy these books because of all the magic and legends. The world created in this series is not as defined as Potter's, but has it's own charm.

About the Author: Rick Riordan is the author of several adult mystery books and a number of children stories, including 4 earlier books from the Percy Jackson series. You can visit him at Rick Riordan.com

Vidia And The Fairy Crown by Laura Driscoll

Summary: Vidia is accused of taking the Queen crown. Prilla and Vidia go on a search to find it.

My Thoughts: There is something interesting about a fairy with attitude. Vidia is not one of the nicest fairies but she is still interesting. In fact she seems to make an appearance in every book. Also, Vidia’s conflict with the Queen sort of humorous. This was a good mini quest. 4 Stars

About the author: Laura Driscoll has written quite a few Dora the Explorer books. She also wrote one other Disney Fairy chapter book called Fawn and the Mysterious Trickster.

Prilla and the Butterfly Lie by Kitty Richards

Fourth Book read for Read - a - thon!!! This is probably the last book.
Pages: 113
Total Number of Page Read : 839

Summary: Prilla learns her lesson after telling a lie.

My Thoughts: This one was cute. I Prilla is she a fairy with the talent of blinking to the clumsies (humans) mainland and playing with child. This talent keeps the fairies alive because it keeps the belief of fairies alive. I wish there was a little more of her using her talent because I think it cute when she plays with the kids. It had a pretty good lesson at the end too. 3.5 Stars

About the Author: Kitty Richards has only written one other book and it is a Spongebob Squarepants book. Other then that I can’t find anything on her.

The Trouble With Tink by Kiki Thorpe

Third book Read for Read- A-Thon! And I forgot this disney fairy books are also for the Young Readers Challenge at Becky's.

Pages:109
Total Pages Read : 726

Summary: Tinker Bell loses something, rumors start that she lost her talent to fix pot and pans.

My Thoughts: I like this one it was as good as the last Disney Fairy book I read, A Masterpiece for Bess, but it was nice. It was nice to see what happen with her an Peter Pan in this one although it the is no continuity to other Peter Pan stories by Disney, like Peter and the Starcatchers. There was no real lesson in this one and the other if fact I don’t like the fact that it was okay for Tinker Bell to not ask for help and keep everything to herself that didn’t seem right. 3 Stars

About the Author: Kiki Thorpe has written many books some separate novels, Disney books and a lot of Bear in the Big Blue House books. Unfortunately she does not have a website but I can just by looking at the google search people have been looking for her biography. She has written one other Disney Fairy book call Tink, North of NeverLand. Disney Fairies, Fantasy, Kiki Thorpe, Read-A-Thon, Series, Young Reader Challenge

The Fire Eternal by Chris D'Lacey

2nd Book Finished for Read- a- Thon!!

pages : 506

Summary: Fourth book in a series by Chris D’Lacey. This one takes place five years after the last book FireStar. Our main character, David, from the last books is missing and we now find out that his girlfriend, Zanna, has had a daughter by him. The daughter might be the key to saving the world from the end of days.

My Thoughts: Loved to see the returning characters in one, Zanna, Lucy, Arthur and let’s not forget all the dragon characters. Very creative and imaginative story about dragons and where they come from. They even added some fairies in this time. I most loved about this book is the characters returning to them just felt natural and it did seem like there was more story to be told. I even got the feeling there could be another one in the works. I recommend this book any time a there is a kid asking for a good series and especially if they like fantasy I recommend this at work. I thought this whole series was great and I have even made my husband read them. One thing I didn’t like was how abruptly it ended I was confused when it ended and had to go back and read it again to make sure I had not missed some thing. Other then that is was good. 4 Stars

About the Author: You can tell Chris D’Lacey is passionate about saving the polar bears and the ice caps from this series and the other small books he has written for children about them. He mostly known for his dragon series.

A Masterpiece for Bess by Laura Bergen

1st Book Done for the Read-A-Thon!!

Summary: Bess an artist fairy who paints a portrait of Tinker Bell and soon all the other fairies want a portrait to call there own.

My Thoughts: Very cute. I thought this really captured the artist in me. I don’t know if I would say Bess is my favorite fairy thou but I see a lot of myself in her she’s messy, and likes to paint when wants to. I read this fairly quickly it is somewhere in the mid range for a chapter book not too easy and not to hard but definitely an enjoyable story. 4.5 stars

About the author: I couldn’t find to much on Laura Bergen. She has written some Dora’s The Explorer books and more Disney books. This is the only Disney fairy book she has done so far. I give her an A+.
