These official short stories were later turned into the well-loved Irish Country Doctor series of books. Piece by piece the stories put a shine on what it is that readers love about the characters.

If you have a problem remembering details about books especially series then you will not mind the repeating of some of the stories. As for me, I have not read the whole series and I have been reading them out of order, which I love I can do that and not be confused. I love reading about the two doctors and their first meeting and inevitable friendship. Love...love… the elder doctor’s dog and cat, they are too funny. Their quirky housekeeper Kinky.

There is really nothing I dislike about the short stories. I have seen what other reviews say about it being repetitive because these stories are all in the 9 previous books but for me, it is a nice refresher.

I love the Irish Country Doctor series because it makes me feel like I am in Ireland among my favorite people. I will continue to read the series. This is actually the fifth one I have read and this book 9.5 in the series.

In the third installment to the Irish Country series we happily retreat back into Dr. Barry Laverty and Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly lives around the Christmas holiday.  As they share the practice that Dr. O’Reilly started their bond is getting stronger.  Dr. Laverty hopes that his girlfriend, Patricia, can make it to spend the holiday with him and Dr. O’Reilly rekindles an old flame.  Meanwhile the characters in town are a loveable and sometime silly group of Irish folk.

I love this series not only because you don’t have to read it in order but it reminds me of how Ireland feels when you visit it.  It is magical, friendly and relaxing. It feels like going home to me.  Of course my heritage has a lot of irish in it so it is only natural for me I guess.

Some people complain that the books are getting redundant and have formula but I do not feel that nor would I mind if it was.

The Irish Country stories are a nice cozy and warming stories that feel real to me. They are plausible stories that usually end with a happy ending. I have realized something about happy endings.  I use to get bored of them but now I realize I like them more than any other ending. If your life were a book which ending would you like?  Not many of us get happy endings and it is what I hope for and if I don’t get it at least I live briefly in a book that does.

What is it About?

Newly made doctor Barry Laverty meets with the current doctor, of a made up town called Balleybucklebo, Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly. He is to be an intern for Dr. Reilly who introduces him to the whole town, in which some seem somewhat insane.

My Thoughts:

Dr. Barry Laverty is just out of medical school in search of a practice to work at. He comes across Dr. O’Reilly’s request for a intern in a (made up) town called Balleybucklebo, Ireland. It seems a small town such as this has several different kinds of people, the kooks, and the actual sick.

I believe this is first book in the series although I do not think you need to read in order because the first one I read was the 4th? Irish Country Girl. I was hoping that the story was going to have more of irish magical feel like Irish Country Girl but it did not.
I still love the quirkiness of the characters and the town. The only thing is because the book has no real plot it is hard to describe what the story is about without giving spoilers.

My Thoughts: An Irish Country Girl is the fourth book in the Irish Country series, which start with An Irish Country Doctor and includes An Irish Country Village and An Irish Country Christmas.  This installment is about Maureen “Kinky” Kincaid as she reminisces about being a young girl blossoming into adulthood.

I have not read the earlier books in this series and I didn’t feel like I had to to enjoy this book, but I absolutely will read the the early ones and the ones to come. I loved the character Maureen and never wanted the book to end. The description of Ireland, its people and a little folk lore added to the magic of the story telling. I felt as if I was there and believed every word that was written. Maureen has seen and felt such heartache that you ache with her because the words ring and these are things that could happen in real life.

About the Author: Patrick Taylor is also a medical researcher. He was born in Northern Ireland and now lives in Canada. So far he has released four books in the Irish Country Series and will soon release An Irish Country Courtship. Visit his Official Website at http://patricktaylor.ca

Why Does it Have to End?

 There have been only a hand full of books/series that I have had P.A.B.D. In fact one book that I am reading now (An Irish Country Girl by Patrick Taylor) is one of them. Although the book I am reading now is the 4th book in the Irish Country series and I have not read the first 3 yet. I have absolutely fell in love with the character Maureen "Kinky" Kincade. I only have about 2-3 chapters to go and I don't want it end. The writing has such magic and decribes wonderfully what Ireland feels like. But since I was given the book to do a review I will be finishing it... I suppose.;-)

 I Knew it From the Start

I can remember one of the first times I had P.A.B.D. and it had to be during a reading a V.C. Andrews book/series. I do mean the original V.C. Andrews books not the ones written after her death. In middle school my favorite series was the Casteel series starting with Heaven. The stand alone novel by Ms. Andrews called My Sweet Audrina was thrilling and I loved the name so much I used it as my first email. I made websites about the books and author. I read fan fiction and even wrote fan fiction. I collected all the books and even had many european additions which eventually I gave away after the books lost there magic so to speak.

Always Full of Surprises

 Suprisingly the is the book that I remember thinking, when I wasn't reading, what is so and so doing or going to do. I say surprisingly because I gave the book a not so good review. That book is A Decent Ransom by Ivana Hruba.

The book had me so tense in a not so good way that by the end of it I wasn't dreading the end I was begging for it.
