Shannon’s Thoughts:

This being the second book in The Ice & Fire Series, we are reunited with characters from the first book.  Like the first book there is dark clouds hovering above the families fighting for the right of the iron throne.  Now the book does pretty much cover everything that is in the series.  There are little things here and there I thought should have been in the tv series that had been removed.  I saw the t.v. series first so the books were not shocking story wise because.

Some things I really wonder why they cut out of the t.v. series.  Like for instance there is a comet in the sky that is suppose to be an omen predicting doom.  I do not think this is even mentioned in the t.v. series and I kinda felt it needed more of the mystical.

Only I complain about is they are so damn long to read.  I  just finished the 2nd book in time for 3 season on HBO.   So I have no idea what is coming.  I had hope to read the 3rd book before the show came on again.  That is not really important I guess.  The books may be long but still worth it.

Amazing drama, and fantasy.  If you have friends that read the books you will find everyone has their favorite chapters or characters to read about.  The stories do tend to show the darker side of people... but it also shows how people still have hope and struggle to get normalcy back to their chaotic lives.

What is it About?

Groups of families battle each for power as the nature of the fantasy world gives it own problems for people.

My Thoughts:

I started reading this before I watched the show, then I put it down after the first two chapters and watched the show.  I picked the book back up after watching season 2 and even though I know what happens in this book because of the show it was much easier to read because I picture the actors from the show.

My favorite characters have to be Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Arya Stark. The characters worlds are so detailed and weaved so tightly that it is hard to find anything amiss with the story.  Like the watching the series I feel like I could read the book over and over.  This is just a story filled with awesomeness and I have just started it.  I am both excited and fearful what is to come to these characters. I have read many people find the book has too many characters to follow that is why I say too seriously watch season 1 at least.  I have the second book Clash of Kings but may not get to it for a while.

What is it About?

A squire to a knight loses his knight, and decides to become one himself.

My Thoughts:

Having not read or seen any of the other parts of the Song of Ice and Fire series this is nice story to start out with.   In some ways this story reminded me of the movie A Knight’s Tale with Heath Ledger but then it is different.

Instead of having funny sidekicks there is just Egg,  Duncan the Tall’s new squire,  a young boy who does not listen well and talks back a little and has something mysterious about him.    Duncan who has yet to make a name for himself as a knight struggles with being the kind that someone could look up to.

This first part of the graphic novel ends on a cliff hanger so as to what happens.  Alas I do not know because my library does not have the second part yet.  The first part is light-hearted and amusing. Other reviews hint at Duncan’s tale not going so well in the end.  So my curiosity is peaked and I will probably try harder to find the second part and read on.
