Shannon’s Thoughts:


Hollis has just graduated from college but in no hurry to find a stable job. He seems to spend a lot of time sleeping or going on mischievous trips with his friends.

I like some of the characters and wish some of the relationships went deeper like Hollis and Xanth. They were interesting. They meet in a unique way. I don’t understand why he never talks to his friends about Xanth though. I would have read a whole book about Xanth and Hollis.

I had hoped for more with this book. Not much happens. The story builds in many places and then never pays off. It just loses steam and becomes a story about nothing. It’s like the Seinfield of novels.

If you are a fan of Catcher In The Rye then you will probably like Warp. Hollis is very like a modern-day Holden.

Author John Moe comes up with some uniquely humorous journals, lists, reviews, and more from some of pop culture’s favorite characters over the years.

Some of my favorites were the continuing ideas for halftime shows for all of the Superbowls. The Goofy and Pluto conundrum is something I even wondered about. Fonzie’s letter to the Cunninghams probably got the biggest laugh from me. The interview with Popeye and Olive Oil was messed up.

I thought I would laugh a lot more than I did. There were clever ideas but not all funny. I got all the references (because I am old) but I think some younger people will not have any idea who some of the characters are.

I was a little disappointed in this one. While I think John Moe is a talented writer and has imaginative ideas, I just wanted more of the funny.

A little boy having a good time at the zoo loses one of his shoes. He searches every section of the zoo but the shoe is hard to find.

The art is cute and there is a lot of action going on with each page. It is the kind of book that when reading through to the end I realized I missed part of what is happening. Then as I read a second time it all made sense.

I was confused as to why the boy found his shoe where he did but as I read the second time the art and the words made sense.

It is a cute little book and is full of joy. I think it would be interesting to see if kids could pick where the lost shoe is on each page.
