Celebrate Every Day With Books - FEB 10TH 2020

Celebrate Every Day With Books

It seems like everyday has some new theme to celebrate so I thought it might be fun to see what kind of interesting books I can find (new, old, or coming soon) for an everyday holiday. In fact, most days have more than one holiday!

TODAY

IS

FEBRUARY 10TH 2020

UMBRELLA DAY

Umbrellas were used in ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, India, and the Middle East, as early as the fourth century BCE. The first recorded collapsible umbrella dates to 21 CE in China. The canopies of ancient umbrellas were built with different materials than those that are used today, being made of feathers, leaves, and leather; however, their shape was reminiscent of today's umbrellas..” (from Checkiday.com)

Just so you know I have not read most of these but the ones I pick seem the most interesting. You can probably find tons more books for each holiday but I am only going to pick two books for one holiday a day.

Let me know what you think. Do any of them seem interesting to you? Is there another book you think would be a better choice?

Title: Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff
Genre: Fiction, Juvenile, Contemporary
What It Is About?: “Annie Richards knows there are a million things to look out for -- bicycle accidents, food poisoning, chickenpox, smallpox, typhoid fever, runaway zoo animals, and poison oak. That's why being careful is so important, even if it does mean giving up some of her favorite things, like bike races with her best friend, Rebecca, and hot dogs on the Fourth of July. Everyone keeps telling Annie not to worry so much, that she's just fine. But they thought her brother, Jared, was just fine too, and Jared died. “( From Goodreads.com)

Title: The Elephant’s Umbrella by Laleh Jaffari
Genre: Fiction, Children’s, Picture Book, Animals, Elephant
What It Is About?: “The Elephant's Umbrella is a simple yet sophisticated tale about how generous we can be to others. The leopard and the bear think only of how the umbrella will make it nicer for them to hunt and eat, while the elephant wants to share the shelter the umbrella provides with his friends.” (from Goodreads.com)
