- Hardcover? Or paperback?
- Illustrations? Or just text?
- First editions? Or you don’t care?
- Signed by the author? Or not?
If I am looking for a classic I prefer hardcover but most of my books are paperback.
I like Illustrations with my classic hardcovers and most other book too.
I would love to have a first edition of any old book. But even if I did have one I wouldn't have a good place to keep it safe.
I collected signed books that are signed to me. I giveaway general signed books.

Interesting what you say about first editions. I have several that are on my writing desk and I often think I should put them somewhere safe, but then, I like looking at them. Hmmm. I posted pics of some of my collectibles in my post today.
My book stacks and bookcases had gotten so out of control I couldn't find places to stack. After boxing up books and moving them once from Montana to California, then from house #1 to house #2 after a year, then from house #2 to house #3 after 8 years, I sort of said Uncle!
I changed my criteria. I only keep copies of books, (in hardcover) that I know I'll want to read again sometime in my life, and the books I haven't read yet. Weirdly selective, I know, but easier to manage. I was starting to feel owned by the level of stuff I had, instead of owning the stuff.
