Booking Through Thursday

Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school–does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?

I do tend to add some seasonal books in for instance I try to read A Christmas Carol at least once around the christmas holiday. Reading the book is just different then watching the movie. I use to add scary novels around October or sometimes read from my huge book of Poe works that I still haven't finished. Now I try to stay away from the scary books. The closest I get to reading Halloween type books is if it is a local ghost stories book. For some reason that doesn't really scare me. I do read a couple kids Halloween books around now too. So yes I do think my moods change with the seasons.

I think I read pretty much the same sort of thing all year. But, yes, I do have a few "special" things I read every Christmas. A Christmas Carol, of course. And also Christmas At Bracebridge Hall by Washington Irving - another good one.

I'm a big chicken, and I NEVER read scary stories.

Shannon, my moods change too. No beach reads after August :)

I'm not much for scary stuff either. I tend to go more for historical fiction in the fall -- a holdover from my university days, I think. Right now I've got a Civil War novel, Bedlam South, that deals with mental health issues during the war that really appeals to the leftover bits of historian in me.

I think it might change but just a little. In the summer I do prefer chick lit, lighter reads and I have to read at least one holiday themed book at Christmas time. Otherwise, I tend to read anything and everything at any time of year.
