Young Hannah has been chosen to help others and her angel friends guide her on the journey. Hannah makes new friends as she helps those that seem like they are alone in their struggle. In Mardi Gras Mix Up Hannah is led to a young boy in a wheelchair who has run away because he does not want to leave his home.

I like chapter books like this. It is a sweet short story not made too easy. It reminds me of Touched By Angel for kids. This was the first one in this series I had read. I could follow what was happening but I did feel like I would understand the reason for angels if I read the first book. Hopefully one day I will.

The only downside is that I feel the angels are not in the book as much as I thought they would be. Everything is kinda put on Hannah’s shoulders which is kinda rough for a preteen.

Hannah and the Angels is a great series for kids ages 5 and up. I would also recommend The Fairy School series by Gail Carson Levine.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

Marigold, aka Pixie, is a young elementary student with a love for books. After a bad day in school Pixie’s Mom takes her to the library where she discovers a book she has never come across. This surprises her because she has read almost everything there. This book is very special and it glows green. As she opens it she is introduced to some familiar characters but their stories seem jumbled and confused. Pixie must help the characters back into their own stories before they become blank pages.

Kids who are familiar with the classics like Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella, and Snow White will recognize some of the characters. Even if they have only watched some of the Disney movie versions they will realize that something is different about these stories. What I like is that author Coraline Grace has basically just let the story flow and not let the original stories confine what is happening. It is a story that kids can learn imagination can go anywhere and even change what been done before.

Reading this book as an adult with a little OCD was sometimes difficult though. Pixie starts to read about Cindy, Alice, and The White Rabbit together in a book arguing. Then Cindy tells some of her life stories. My adult brain cannot help but say “That’s not what happened”. But this is a book for children, not adults.

Pixie and The Green Book Mystery is a cute and creative book where imagination runs wild and free. It takes the bones of other stories and connects them in a way that children will remember years later.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

This is the 16th book in the Tales of Pixie Hollow Series but it is the first book in which the character on the cover, and title, is not from their point of view. It is in the point of view of Prilla who notices that the Queen and the precious magical heart seed is missing.

As always the images are beautifully drawn.  The story is sweet.  I am a fan of Prilla the clumsy (their word for humans) fairy.  Prilla runs into Lily and Beck.  Beck is a animal fairy who can talk to all animals and talking to frogs is a hoot!

I was hoping this was a story featuring the Queen as the main character but sometimes you can not have everything.  We get to hear little about Mother Dove which makes up a little for the lack in Queen Clarion’s story.

I love the Disney Fairies movies but I the books I enjoy more because there are more fairies and other characters then the movies.  My wish is that the books continue to be on bookstore shelves for a long time to always enjoy.

What is it About?

Beck is a animal talent fairy.  She can talk to animals and loves meeting new furry friends.  A flock of birds traveling makes Beck wonder if she is missing out by staying in Pixie Hollow.

My Thoughts:

One of the many animal talent fairies, Beck, wonders what else is in the world besides Pixie Hollow. She gets help from another fairy and a flock of birds that travel with her until she realizes where she is really needed.

I have said this before but I love the Disney fairies series more than Disney Princesses.  The fairies find what their purpose is by finding their talent. Princesses kind of wait for fate to decide what their lives may be.   

There are some holes in the story that was left unanswered.  The fact that no one found who was hurting Mother Dove.  Other than that it was a fairly entertaining book.

What is it About?

Rosetta the garden fairy and her friend Fawn the animal talent fairy are both as different as can be.  One likes to get dirty and play with animals the other likes to stay pretty an neat.  They make a deal to teach the other how to be the opposite testing there friendship.

My Thoughts:

I have to say this one was not one of my favorites.  Usually the Disney Fairies are spot on lessons while the friendship aspect was right the part about facing your fear just felt off to me. Yes they both face there fear and receive an award but in real life the reward is facing your fear you do not always get a reward.   So that part irked me.

I know it’s a kids book but still you are trying to teach kids with these books.

What is it About?

Zinnia the garden fairy gets lost on a adventure.


My Thoughts:

I love Cicely Mary Barker’s art of the fairies always have but the story in the book does not do them justice.  Sadly I was bored with the book.   I read then had to skim the story maybe mostly because well I read a lot of faery books and this one just had no real story.  Most the faery chapter books I have read have a lesson or moral.  I am not saying that every book should have that but the adventure was just plain boring.    

I did like the different character fairies they all seemed to have there own personality including the elves.

The art is great, book cover beautiful with a nothing to write home about tale.  This is first I have read in the flower fairies series and I think I would read another to see how it is but I was really disappointed in this one.

For those that might like the series or something similar take a look at Fairy School series by Gail Herman.

What is it About?
Young Dorrie is probably one of the clumsiest fairy you’ll meet.  Unless you met her fairy godmother.   

My Thoughts:

Dorrie the fairy feels like she is no good at anything.  She trips and stumbles, she can’t spells right and even her fairy godmother is clumsy.   Dorrie wonders if she will ever be good at anything.

This a good book for kids with low self esteem.  I believe there is a young clumsy Dorrie in us all.  Somedays it is just like that.  Even though everyday seems to be like that for Dorrie, she still has friends, family and support.   She a all around good fairy she just has to see it.  Luckily her fairy godmother is smart enough to help.

A little hokie at times but down right cute book.

What is it About?

Olivia is one of the best students at fairy school but she is a little distracted to come up with a new cloud shape because her parents are expecting a twin fairy babies who are more then a handful.

My Thoughts:
What sibling wouldn’t be distracted by the thought of a new baby brother or sister?  For Olivia it’s become more than just a distraction. As a full time baby sitter of her twin brother and sister Olivia’s school work starts to falter.   She has to come up with a new cloud shape for the school’s contest and she just started a new art class.

This book is too cute for words.  As we learn how fairy babies are born in the Fairy School series and how much trouble they can get into we delve into the fun that is the Fairy School world.  As usual all the Fairy School friends get together to help Olivia in any way possible and she needs it.

Another Delightful tale in the collection.  Fun to read and imagine.

What is it About?
Airy Fairy is trying her best to tackle Fairy school and her classes.  Now she has to get her room cleaned, decorate it and think of a present for her teacher.  All with a limited amount of spells, and Airy is not too good with spells.

My Thoughts:
Airy Fairy is essential good fairy who tries her best, gets it wrong and then somehow always gets it right in the end.  Even though she is picked on, messes up her spells and is the clumsiest fairy.

The books are cute and teach children to keep trying and eventually you will get something right even if it does not go as planned.  I am not big fan of the doodle art that is on the cover and in the books.  I guess it is suppose to look childlike and free flowing like Airy Fairy.

They are chapter books so these books are short but sweet and are creative little stories.

What is it About?

Two human Rachel and Kristy help fairy land retrieve the weather magic back from the evil goblins.

My Thoughts:

I like the idea of the different fairies in the Rainbow Magic Series but every story is just recycled from the first to the last.  I understand that it is a chapter book and kids are just starting to learn reading with these books but there could be more originality besides the names.

There are other chapter books that do not follow patterns like Disney fairy books, The Fairy school book by Gail Herman and others.     

I also don’t think you need to read the books in order because they do tell you what happened in the book before this one.

I just don’t know if I will read another.  I might try one of the super sized ones like Shannon the Ocean Fairy but I am partial to that because the name only and I think that is what grabs you with these books.  The girls see there name or name they know and walla a collection is born.

What is it About?

The little fairies at Fairy School have a new homework assignment which is taking care of there very own special baby animal.  Since Trina does best at school she thinks this task should be easy if only her chick would act normal.  

My Thoughts:

Trina is having problems keeping her homework, a baby chick in line with the other baby chicks.

I thought this to be an adorable little tale of things going not as planned.  Poor little Trina tries her best to get her chick to eat things a regular baby chick would eat , play like a regular chick and sleep like one as well.   He does  every but what the book tells her he should.  Trina learns the hard way that even books can’t tell you how to do everything.  

Wonderful little thought out experience from Fairy School series!
