What is it About?

Children’s biography on Deborah Sampson, a woman who dressed as a man and fought in the American Revolution.

My Thoughts:

Written in short entertaining paragraphs which I can only assumed where formed from Deborah Sampson diary as the book states she kept one most of her life after she learned to read. Deborah was known to be a very smart child and as a adult even taught as a school teacher for a while until she became eager to travel the world. She saw her chance in joining the American Revolution dressed as a man. She even fooled her own mother dressed up.

The book is easy to read and entertaining with drawings of Deborah and her history. I think it is an excellent read for children to learn how far women have gotten to this day and in Deborah’s time period. I would be interested to see more books about her. I do not know if any books are out there in adult format but there should be if her diary is around.

What is it About?

Non-fictional juvenile book on history of Civil War.

My Thoughts:

As I have said before for adult who do not remember much from history classes these books for children can be a great beginners guide to what you don’t know.

The book teaches you about what the Civil War was about, who was in it and when it took place.

I like that the book tells you about whether you would stayed in school if you were young. It gives a background racially what was going on and tells you about who was made famous or was better known because of the Civil War.

I think the book is excellent to use to gain information although personally I was more interested in the Revolutionary War then the Civil War.  I know it is a big part of American history and I am glad I know more about it now.

What is it About?
 
Non-fiction facts about the American Revolution.  It tells what happened, who was involved and when it ended.


My Thoughts:

I find if you are like me and do not remember the history that was studied in school when you were younger that picking up a kids book on history helps you better understand what you are learning about.

This written very simply and broken up in lite paragraphs.  It gives an overview of what happened during the American Revolution for the Patriots and Loyalists.  It also speaks a little about certain people who became better known because of American Revolution from both sides.  Although that is not that much known about Loyalists according to the book but just enough to be interesting information in this.

It was interesting to learn both sides of the coin and how different times and people where and how they changed during and after.  Overall I give it a thumbs up.
