Books To Talk About : Speed of Light by Lee Baker

BOOKS TO TALK ABOUT

What if people could move the speed of light? Not faster then it but the speed of it.
Supposedly in recent news there has been proof that this will never be possible.  Einstein said we would not be able to, but what if (as some humans can be) Einstein is wrong.

This book, a work of fiction, is about Pierce Black a man about to make the first flight at the speed of light.   After the flight he awakens from a coma to a different view of the world. The past is not just haunting him but continually berating him with visions of his wife’s murder and now he is in danger.  Pierce tries to comprehend what is happening to him and whether or not he is loses his mind.

DISCUSS IN THE COMMENTS

1) Do you think it ever possible even with current scientific news that man could travel the speed of light? Why?

2)Do you think this would make a interesting movie premise?

This is a great book that I think all should read. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. It would be very cool to be able to travel the speed of light and this story allows the reader to do that. I am very excited to see this Book be turned into a Feature Film sometime in the near future. Stephen

As far as attaining the speed of light or not, it seems that when a boundary is set, mankind seems to figure out a way to break that boundary so I do think it's possible even if not probable. Movie premise? This book would make a great movie or series of movies, even a great TV series. It reminds me of Stargate in the infinite possibilities that one could discover with this power. Think of all the history one could go and see, might cause some controversy if history doesn't turn out to be as true as the victor has written. Also knowing the duality of people you meet, they say one thing but you see them do another. I liked the connection with his son and how some brain disorders or even the insane may not be as insane as we think. Also what if his son went through the process if it would reverse his condition.

Sadly, no. Matter cannot travel at the speed of light. This restriction seems to built into the laws of nature and there is nothing to suggest this principle could ever be violated. (see article "Impossible, that's all!" in

Any good story could potentially be turned in a good movie, so good luck!

I love, and I think most of the world loves the idea that the human mind can conquer anything. Science and man's perception has often put blocks that later are broken or overcome. Think of the impossibility of the 4 minute mile. It was thought of as impossible. It was broken. How about what goes up, must come down? Not true. We've made it to the moon... Our words and images now travel the speed of light. Just because with current science we don't think there is a way, I think that too could be broken. I think with the human mind even travel at the speed of light or faster is possible. BTW - Cool movie concept.

In the book, matter does not travel the speed of light, but is converted into light, travels as light, and is later rebuilt. I guess the big question is can matter change form, be converted into light and the information embedded in the photons?
