Booking Through Thursday

I was looking through books yesterday at the shops and saw all the Twilight books, which I know basically nothing about. What I do know is that I’m beginning to feel like I’m the *only* person who knows nothing about them.

Despite being almost broke and trying to save money, I almost bought the expensive book (Australian book prices are often completely nutty) just because I felt the need to be ‘up’ on what everyone else was reading.

Have you ever felt pressured to read something because ‘everyone else’ was reading it? Have you ever given in and read the book(s) in question or do you resist? If you are a reviewer, etc, do you feel it’s your duty to keep up on current trends?

I guess my answer is yes. Sometimes...I do feel pressure or really left out if I don't read a book everyone is talking about. I will only read though if I know I am going to enjoy it. For instance Twilight and Harry Potter are genres I would normally read and they sounded pretty good. As a reviewer I don't feel the need to stay on trends I like to read what I want when I want.

Hi, Shannon ... I like how you describe it as feeling "left out." I feel more that way than that I "should" read a popular book.

I guess it's a "to each his own" thing.

Since its real early and Refer a Book Friday isn't up yet and I'll be at work all day, here's my recommendation for this week. My favorite book for August was Driving Sideways. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. I love books that make you laugh out loud in public places. You know its good!
