You didn't like Heat Wave?
While it's not as good as the show, I liked seeing into Castle's head.

I wasn't too impressed by Heat Wave either. The end-of season cliff-hanger was SO much better!

As for your Mercedes Lackey choice... I have not read that one, but she writes in several different styles. I am guessing that a 'Godmother' book will be one of her fairy-tale kingdom books. I read her Sleeping Beauty and it was disposable funny romantic fluff - beach-read. I liked her Reserved for the Cat more, though it does jump you into the middle of an established fantasy world. It's also romantic fluff, just a little more to it, I guess.
